Literacy Promotion

While we are still collecting magazines, the Community Classroom/Literacy Promotion Committee has a new project beginning this month benefitting Wonderful Days Preschool! Wonderful Days Preschool, Inc. is a Georgia non-profit 501(c)(3) preschool program for low-income families that meet Federal Income Eligibility Guidelines in the Cobb County area. It is a private, tuition- free preschool that serves two meals a day and provides free transportation. WDP is partially funded and housed by St. James Episcopal Church. When asked how Fielding Lewis might help with literacy for the children, Martha Tovar, Wonderful Days Director, suggested Spanish/English books, since many of the parents do not speak English.  Reading books to the children in English, in large part, has relied on older siblings who may or may not be willing to take that time. Bilingual books, and books in Spanish, will offer the opportunity for children and their parents to share stories. You can help by donating a book or two from the Spanish/English list compiled by Emily Simmons.  This list, found on the Fielding Lewis website, will give you direct links to purchase these books. Paper copies of the list may be found at the Literacy display.
